2022 marks the 80th anniversary of the Allied landing in Dieppe, France, on August 19, 1942. It was one of the most controversial battles of World War II, and it also involved large-scale air operations to provide direct landing support and defend soldiers and the fleet against the Luftwaffe. This book is a tribute to the 1st Polish Wing, the Fighter Command wing, which was most successful during the operation. The wing provided 10% of the Spitfire squadrons involved in the battle, suffered 3.5% of the casualties and was assigned, by the Fighter Command, 17% of all enemy aircraft destroyed. Squadrons 303 and 317 were the best "winning" units that day. It's worth noting that they achieved this by still flying the Spitfire V variant, while some Fighter Command squadrons already had the significantly improved Mk IX. Over 300 carefully selected and extensively signed photos show Spitfires from five Polish squadrons, as well as the people who held and flew them to support the Dieppe landing.
