Advanced Modeling AMC48034 ODAB-500PM 500 kg Air-Fuel Explosive bomb set

The ODAB-500 is a modern Russian (originally Soviet) air-fuel type aviation bomb. The length of the bomb is 220 cm with a diameter of 450 millimeters. The curb weight is 392 kg, and the mass of the explosive-fuel material is 93 kg. The ODAB-500 was developed for the needs of the Soviet Air Force and was armed at the end of the 1970s, belonging to the so-called 1st generation of Soviet air and fuel bombs. It is designed primarily to incapacitate the enemy's manpower, but also to destroy surface targets. As a flammable material, it carries ethylene oxide, which unfortunately is a very volatile substance. The bomb was used on a large scale during the war in Afghanistan in 1979-1989, where it turned out to be a highly unreliable weapon. According to various estimates, the ODAB-500 bomb turned out to be reliable only in 15-50% of cases! For this reason, the bomb was modified to the ODAB-500P standard, which has a completely different warhead, based on the explosive and piperylene, which replaced ethylene oxide. The further development of the weapon led to the creation of other variants, including: ODAB-500PM or ODAB-500PMV.
