Yeomen Warders (colloquial name: Beefaeters) is the general name for the guardians of the British Tower Castle in London. The history of the formation dates back to 1485, when it was established by order of King Henry VII of the Tudor dynasty. For a very long time she was recruited from among wealthy English peasants (ang. Yeomen), which also gave rise to the name of the unit. In the past, Yeomen Warders' main tasks were guarding prisoners held in the Tower and guarding the insignia of the Queens and Kings of England. Today, the unit is recruited from among former soldiers of various types of British armed forces - a prerequisite for joining is 22 years of impeccable service. Currently, the duties of Yeomen Warders are still guarding the Tower, but also, to a much greater extent, care and supervision of tourists visiting this monument. The common name of the formation (called Beefaeters) comes from the fact that in the 16th and 17th centuries its members probably received additional allowances of beef. The first woman was admitted to Beefaeters in 2007.
