The Curtiss P-6 Hawk is an American biplane fighter, considered one of the most beautiful biplanes in the history of aviation. The flight of the prototype took place in 1927, and from 1929 the plane went to line units. Its decisive advantage was its high speed, which, however, was compensated by the unfavorable steering characteristics in the P-6E, causing its delayed responses to the rudders. The role of the drive unit was performed by the Curtiss V-1570C Conqueror engine with a capacity of 700 HP. P-6E planes were included in the equipment of 17th, 94th and 33rd Squadrons and 1st and 8th Pursuit Groups based at Selfridge Field, Michigan and Langley Field, Virginia. During the service, the planes turned out to be extremely emergency and prone to accidents, which resulted in the loss of as many as 27 out of 46 machines in USSAC stock in accidents.
